Pioneering Extended Support: Qatar’s First Semi-Boarding Program
At Ontario Center for People with Disabilities, our commitment has always been twofold: empowering individuals with complex sensory and learning needs to discover their full potential, and providing unwavering, compassionate support to the families who care for them.
As our participants grow into adolescence and young adulthood, their developmental needs evolve. Families often find themselves seeking a structured environment that bridges the gap between daily skill-building and real-world independence, while also needing reliable, extended care.To meet this vital need, Ontario Center is proud to introduce Qatar’s first Semi-Boarding Program—a pioneering initiative designed specifically for older youth and young adults (ages 13 to 21+).
A Safe, Structured Haven: 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., 7 Days a Week
Operating seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., our semi-boarding program transforms extended daily care into an enriching, home-like experience. Housed in our dedicated Teen and Adult Building—completely separate from our early childhood spaces—participants engage in structured daily routines tailored to their mature stage of life.
Our comprehensive daily schedule includes:
Intensive Daily Living Skills: Hands-on practice in personal hygiene, domestic safety, and meal preparation inside our safety-adapted Ontario Top Chef Kitchen.
Vocational & Pre-Work Skills: Focus on communication, task completion, organization, and teamwork.
Social & Creative Expression: Peer collaboration through music, expressive arts, and physical fitness in our adaptive recreation spaces.
Supported Community Outings: Practical experience navigating public spaces, markets, and transit routines with dedicated specialist tracking.
Evening Relaxation & Nourishment: Healthy, delicious dinners followed by soothing sensory de-escalation sessions—featuring soft lighting, gentle music, and sensory activities—to ensure participants return home calm, fulfilled, and regulated.
Empowering Participants, Supporting Families
For our young adults, this extended schedule provides the time and repetition needed to build genuine self-reliance, practical confidence, and lifelong independence. They practice real-world skills in a predictable, low-ratio setting led by internationally certified, specialists. For parents and caregivers, the program offers something equally essential: valuable, reliable respite time. Managing the intensive demands of caring for an individual with complex needs can be exhausting. Our semi-boarding schedule gives families peace of mind and time to rest, work, or attend to other family obligations, fully reassured that their loved one is receiving exceptional care, meaningful engagement, and continuous development throughout the day.
Our Semi-Boarding Program is a natural extension of that founding promise. By opening our doors for extended daily support, we continue to stand as a true "home away from home" for our participants and a steadfast partner for families across Qatar.
